The Community and Identity Project

A Multigrade Level Project

The community and identity project is a collaborative community building project between grade 6 students at Senator Riley Middle School and grade 10 students at Crocus Plains Regional . This project began with each student as an individual exploring the question “Who am I?”  and investigating the meaning of their name. This project will then moved beyond our immediate classroom and school community as my grade 6 class collaborated with a grade 10 class at Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School in Brandon, Manitoba to further explore and build community.  The hope for this project was for students to broaden and deepen their understanding of identity and community through interacting with students in a different geographical location. Communication between the grade 6's and the grade 10’s was done using video conferencing. We are currently in the final stages of the project where student groups will create a digital story book to show their learning.. Indigenious perspectives and different aspects of the Canadian culture were explored throughout this project.
