Vernon Cadet Summer Training Center Summer 2017

While working at Vernon Cadet Summer Training Center in the summer of 2017, I worked with Bravo Company as a Civilian Music Instructor. Throughout the summer, I was tasked with instructing every level of music education ranging from general training to advanced staff cadet courses. Working in general training I taught the introductory military band course which was designed to introduce students to woodwind and brass instruments found in the military band.  For the intermediate and advanced cadet courses, I designed, planned and implemented: music history, theory, large ensemble, lesson planning and musicianship, woodwind sectionals and individual instruction. I also was one of the primary instructors for staff cadet development. Staff cadets attend camp to develop their teaching and leadership skills on specialized advanced coursed. For music staff cadets they worked with instructors individually and in small groups to develop discipline specific instructional skills to help them lead at their home units. I was given the privileged of teaching staff cadet classes in Rehearsal Strategies and Techniques, Understanding the Military Program of Studies to Guide Musicianship Skills, Lesson Planning and Musicianship Fundamentals, and Individual Instructional Development. While teaching at Vernon Cadet Summer Training Centre, I also accompanied and supervised cadet for several performance and field trips. During the summer cadets performed at Davidsons Orchard, The Vernon National Tattoo, local seniors homes, and Peach Festival.

Vernon Cadet Summer Training Centre Summer 2016

My first time working at Vernon Cadet Summer Training Centre was in 2016. During the summer I taught beginner, intermediate and advanced music courses. Cadets registered in beginner band were typically brand new to their instrument or were required to pick an instrument to learn. While working with beginner band students, it was my job to help students develop musicianship fundamentals on woodwind instruments. The courses I planned, organized and implemented for beginner band were Woodwind Sectionals, and Individual Woodwind Instructions. The intermediate courses I taught included Large Ensemble, Music History, Aural Skills, Saxophone Sectionals and Individual Instruction. A large piece of my teaching time table was dedicated to working with advanced band students. While working with advanced I taught the following coursed: Large Ensemble, Music Theory Level 4 & 5, Aural Skills, Saxophone Sectionals, Music History and Individual Instruction. While working at Vernon Cadet Summer Training Centre I accompanied and supervised cadets for performances at Davidsons Orchard and local seniors homes.
